Handmade in a fair-trade environment in the Andes of Peru, each one-of-a-kind piece from Peruvian Trading Company helps support local knitters and their families. Founded in 1993 by Javier and Patricia Dunn. Peruvian-born designers in New York State, Peruvian Trading makes a difference in the lives of artisans around the world.

Peruvian Trading Company works with a network of head knitters and family groups in Lima, Peru. Designs and yarn are distributed to the head knitters who live in the city’s outlying communities. They, in turn, travel to the mountainside and gather the knitters to distribute the yarn at community centers, and also travel door to door to mainly women knitters with expert, intricate hand-knitting skills. These groups of knitters gather at their community centers to exchange knitting techniques, and, with support from the government and nonprofit organizations, master knitters will come to town to teach them the best and latest techniques for mastering their craft.
