In ancient Egypt, Sobek was a deity with a very complex nature, both aggressive and protective. He is associated with the Nile crocodile and is usually represented as a human with a crocodile head. Sobek was worshipped in the Old Kingdom (c. 2686– 2181 BCE) , but gained prominence in the Middle Kingdom (c.2055–1650 BCE) when he became linked with Horus, the falcon-headed god. This connection put Sobek closer to the creation mythology of Osiris and Isis and he morphed into a solar deity. In this time period tributes to him attained greater prominence.
