Famously, British poet, Geoffrey Grigson, once observed them beside the River Thames in Oxford, with the shape of an adder’s head — dangling between the narrow, sword-like leaves, and stated that everyone should walk once in a fritillary field before they die.

Without doubt, the best position to look at fritillaries is when the sun is low in the sky and you kneel down and get the light of the sun through their petals.
