Royal Worcester Nelson Collection - Battle of Copenhagen
DescriptionEmbossed on this fine bone china plate is a print of the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. This is considered one of (then) Vice Admiral Nelson's toughest victories, but as his commanding officer signaled the ship to fall back and escape, Nelson viewed the signal through a spyglass on his blind right eye. Seeing nothing, he just said he hadn't seen the signal and stayed to fight, securing the battle and a proper Armistice with the Danes in the Napoleonic Wars.
