The original Mikado pattern was designed by Art Director Thomas Amos Reed and inspired by rice paper drawings. His illustrations were translated into a series of intricate scenes.

Designed by Royal Crown Derby designer Jane James, the new Mikado collection is a bright and contemporary take on this distinctive pattern. Working with the same romantic scenes, each piece of ware tells the different chapters of the story through intricate patterns depicting rivers, mountains and delicate leaf tracery.
