Paul Cézanne was a French post-impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. He used heavy color and small brushstrokes that were built up to form complex imagery. Cézanne is said to have created the bridge between 19th-century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of Cubism.
